I’m pleased to announce the release of my new children’s book, Mum Says We’ll ChatGPT It! — now available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle formats.

Children everywhere around the world are watching their parents and caregivers use AI tools. And I’ve found myself thinking more and more about what the impact might be on them. That’s what inspired me to write Mum Says We’ll ChatGPT It!, a fun and friendly book about ChatGPT and information literacy for curious readers aged 8–10.

I often stand in front of our fridge and dictate to ChatGPT what we need for groceries. It then helps me create a clear shopping list. My husband still thinks it’s hilarious that I’m talking to a robot instead of dictating the list to him directly (he’s got off scot-free!). ChatGPT is a great tool for productivity and list-making, which really appeals to perfectionists like me.

However, as much as I appreciate what AI can do, it has also made me reflect on the importance of information literacy for kids. When I was a lecturer, I noticed that many first-year university students were unsure of how to verify the information they found online. Today, with AI-generated content everywhere, that challenge is even greater.

We really need to teach children (and adults!) that what AI produces isn’t always the truth; it needs to be verified, questioned, and cross-checked. We need to help kids become critical thinkers, not just consumers of the digital world, and this should start at a young age, not after high school.

I believe that AI information literacy is a skill that can and should be taught both in schools and at home. As parents, we can nurture a responsible use of AI by showing our kids how to use it ethically and thoughtfully.

Mum Says We’ll ChatGPT It! introduces these ideas to children in a fun, story-style way. It encourages them to:

  • Ask thoughtful questions,
  • Think critically about AI-generated answers, and
  • Learn that even technology needs a “second opinion.”

This light-hearted yet meaningful book helps families and classrooms explore how to use AI responsibly, building confidence, curiosity, and kindness online.

So here’s my shameless plug: if you’re a parent, teacher, or simply curious about how to introduce children to AI responsibly, I’d love for you to check out my book.
